Complexity science arose in the 1980s and continues to be one of the leading edges in the development of modern science. Complex systems are a main subject of research in complexity science; summarizing the techniques of complex system research is very challenging and has great significance. This paper discusses two different techniques to research complex systems, one technique is called “Emergence”, the other one is called “Control”; both are bottomup methods. These two techniques were then shown to be divisible into six categories. This paper also demonstrated the applications of these techniques and concluded that the “Emergence” technique is generally suitable when studying different types of complex systems.
