This paper proposes a systematic method for improving the intellig ence and automation of architectural software. First, this method implements aut omatic interpretation of 2D construction drawings. Based on the analysis, a 3D d igital model with both geometrical and syntactic information is generated. Then, using this model, the following three automatic applications are run: quantity survey, 3D steel reinforced lofting and visualization, and network plan generati on for construction progress management. This paper gives a thorough introductio n to effective design and implementation of the above methods, and compares them with existing workflow methods.
