For virtual humans in a smart home, there are still many problems that must be solved before levels of apparent intelligence and social behavior are acceptable. To promote solutions, a cognition filtering layer was proposed and a behavioral model for virtual humans was established. Then, further study on cognition was performed, with current emotion models employed to study both emotional intelligence and behavioral planning of virtual humans. To deal with the many circular obstacles in a smart home, improvements to path planning were proposed. Finally, a 3D simulation was used to test the proposed model and algorithm. Results showed that the behavior of virtual humans seemed more intelligent, while the inclusion of emotion made the virtual humans seem more humanized.
